Information

Huichol Indians from the central west of Mexico, live in remote locations of the Sierra Madre Occidental, in the states of Nayarit and Jalisco. The origin of their radical art is an ancient tradition: the physical transcription of the images visualized by the shamans, induced by the ingestion of Peyote (peyotl), the sacred cactus, allowing them to cross the threshold of the unknown and thus relate to the divine. These beautiful works of art are made with Chaquiras (handmade beads), and thread, each one possessing symbolic reasons, stories and legends of their cosmogony that provide us with a view into Huichol society.
Buying goods produced by them, not only buys a true work of art filled with magic and mysticism, but also allows the members of these communities to live by their own income. Puerto Vallarta offers a wide variety of shops and galleries of Huichol art, where you can observe the artisans at work.
