Information

The Museo de la Luz is situated in the former St. Peter and Paul Church that was built by the Society of Jesus between 1576 and 1603. The Constituent Congress was instituted here on February 24, 1822,  and it was also here that the Constitution of 1824 was born, which gave rise to the popular and federal representative republic in which Mexico lives today.

From 1944 to 1979, this site housed the National Newspaper Library, and 20 years later the university of UNAM decided to allocate it for the Museo de la Luz, or the Museum of Light which was inaugurated on November 18, 1996. This permanent exhibit is dedicated to exploring various facets of the phenomenon of light, from its nature to its relation with other areas of knowledge.

The exhibit halls include: The Nature of Light, A World of Colors, Light and the Biosphere, Vision, The Light of Stars, Light in Art, Light and Time, and Light in the Atrium (with workshops about the use of solar energy).

The museum is open daily from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Admission is $30 pesos.
