Information

Located in El Zapotal natural reserve, just five minutes from the center of Tuxtla Gutierrez, the Zoológico Regional Miguel Alvarez del Toro, or ZOOMAT, is considered to be one of the best zoos in Latin America in its genre. The Zoo exhibits, studies, protects and preserves endangered species such as jaguars, river otters and howler monkeys among others.

A winding path journeys through 43 cages, 24 enclosures, and 3 ponds where visitors can observe the animals that inhabit the region.

The Zoo is open Tuesday to Sunday from 8:30 to 4:00. Closed on Mondays.  General admission is $20 pesos and $10 pesos for students, teachers, and seniors.

Night Tours are available for special groups of 10 to15 people over 18 years of age, which last for 2 hours beginning at 8:30 pm. Cost is $ 100.00 pesos per person.
Spring break and Summer hours: Tuesday to Sunday: 8:30 to 5:00.
