Information

The Catedral Metropolitana de San Luis Potosi is considered the most important monument in the state. It was one of the first Baroque buildings in the city, built where the original parish church was erected in 1593. Construction of the Cathedral began in 1670 and finished in 1730, yet later in the late 19th century, several changes were made, especially to the interior decor which was modified from a Baroque to a neoclassical style. Among its most noteworthy attributes are, the Solomonic Baroque facade which is adorned with statues of the apostles carved in Carrara marble, and its two big towers, the right that was built in 1730, and the left in gray stone which was built in the year of the Centennial of Independence of Mexico.
