The State of Chiapas, located in the southeast of the Mexican Republic, is characterized for its magnificent Mayan archaeological traces that stand themselves in the middle of spectacular natural settings conformed by forest, lakes and rivers. The Culturas VIvas Route (Living Cultures Route) is part of the seven trekkings recomended by the State of Chiapas. This route offers the opportunity to know a part of the traditions of current Mayan people: the Tzotziles and the Tzeltales, their roots, culture, traditions, extraordinary handcrafts, gastronomy, legends and clothing. The cities and populations visited during this circuit are San Cristóbal de las Casas, Zinacantán, San Juan Chamula, Amatenango del Valle, San Pedro Chenalhó and Tenejapa, between many others.
Las Guacamayas, a paradise of Chiapas
The "Parque Ecoturístico Las Guacamayas" is a nature preserve of 1200 hectares, located in the heart of the Lacandona Rainforest and administered by a cooperative company dedicated to the tourism and to the conservation of the nature. Its main attraction is the observation of the red loudmouths in its natural habitat. The rich fauna of the place is also conformed by toucans, parrots and parakeets, tortoises, saraguatos, iguanes and crocodiles.
