Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish
Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish
The construction of the Parroquia de Nuestra Señora of Guadalupe, which is located across from the Plaza de Armas and the City Hall of Puerto Vallarta, started in 1918.
Its facade is brick. The central tower was built in the early 50’s and in 1965 was topped with a concrete crown held by eight angels of the same material.
The original crown fell during an earthquake on October 9, 1995, so the current one is fiberglass and is said to be a replica of the crown used by the Empress Carlota in 1860.
The interior of the Parroquia de Nuestra Señora of Guadalupe houses beautiful works of art, including a marble altar crowned with the image of the Virgin of Guadalupe painted by artist Ignacio Ramirez; paintings depicting the Stations of the Cross, a communion rail, a pulpit, and confessionals of carved wood.
