Information

Puerto Vallarta is the hub of sea and port tourist activities in the states of Jalisco and Nayarit. Thanks to the quality of its services, great infrastructure, its climate and strategic location - in Banderas Bay on the shores of the Pacific Ocean - this dream destination annually receives thousands of foreign and domestic tourists who arrive by plane, car, bus, and international cruise ships.

Puerto Vallarta is now a preferred port of call for the cruise ships that run along the Pacific of North America. The port has a capacity to dock 5 cruise ships simultaneously: three in port and two in the open sea.

The first cruise ship arrivals to Puerto Vallarta began on May 31, 2005 with the arrival of the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder ships, which caused a sensation at the time. In 2011, the Disney Cruises Company expanded its itinerary to Alaska and resumed its routes to the Mexican coast to include Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan, and Puerto Vallarta.

Since May 15, 2009, Puerto Vallarta has belonged to the National Program of Cruise Ships of Los Cabos to Acapulco, which set sail from Acapulco, going to the ports of Ixtapa, Manzanillo, Los Cabos, and Puerto Vallarta, and then back to Acapulco.

In 2012, the Administración Portuaria Integral (API) or the Port Authority reported the arrival of 139 international cruise ships with 358,009 passengers to the Puerto Vallarta Port Terminal.

Some of the cruise lines that travel to Puerto Vallarta are

Carnival Cruise Line, Celebrity Cruises Line, Disney Cruise Line, Holland, America Line, Norwegian Cruise Line, Princess Cruises, Seas Cruises, Royal Caribbean Cruises, and Wind Star among other companies.

The API of Puerto Vallarta also offers several additional services for tourists, such as currency exchange, guides or drivers, taxis, a craft market, restaurants, postal service, telephones, an internet café, and ticket sales for the tour boats that cross the Banderas Bay and other tourist attractions.
