The pre-Hispanic tradition of hammered copper work has given world fame to this typical Michoacán town where native artists have won national awards for the beauty of their work. With the large amount of copper workshops located within the village and its surrounding area, Santa Clara del Cobre is the place for the serious buyer.

Known as the Gateway to the Tierra Caliente (Hot Land), the town of Santa Clara del Cobre, whose name means place of palm trees, is located 55 km southeast of Patzcuaro.

Surrounded by forests with a temperate climate it has several tourist attractions highlighting the Shrine of the Virgen Fatima, famous for its 4 paintings with images of the virgin queens of Poland, Hungary, Lithuania, and Cuba, and its cuisine is considered to be one of the best in the state of Michoacán.

Also, this beautiful village is the origin of the colorful character known as Pito Perez whose memory floats in the old streets of this typical town.
