The small and commercial town of Quiroga is located 24 kilometers from the city of Patzcuaro.
It was named in memory of Don Vasco de Quiroga, but before that was called Cocupao, meaning stone’s throw.
Quiroga is the best place to go shopping and you can find a variety of crafts from around the state: from wooden objects, to ceramics, pottery, toys of all kinds, wrought metal lanterns, copperware, paper mache and leather.
