Information

In the heart of Michoacan there is a house of baroque style of the eighteenth century where it founded the Museum of Colonial Art in 1984. This museum  houses an important collection of 122 Christs from the sixteenth to twentieth century and original easel paintings from the eighteenth to nineteenth century from artists like Miguel Cabrera, Miguel Herrera, Juan Samano and Jose Ibarra.
Many of the pieces such as Corn Cane Christs and orchids that are on display here were made by indigenous hands that come from the hospitals founded by the first bishop of Michoacan, Don Vasco de Quiroga in the sixteenth century.
Its primary purpose was to expose artistic testimonies to show the colonial character of this city. Just finishing the fight for independence in 1921, the first printing press (a typographical workshop) of Valladolid was installed in this building, it was named as the Printing of the Imperial Army of the Three Guarantees and was the very Agustin de Iturbide who ordered his foundation.
