Capital of the state of Yucatan, Merida, also known as the White City or The White Merida, is rich in folklore, food, colonial architecture, and an ancestral heritage that is reflected in the various Mayan archaeological sites located in the surrounding area. Merida is a city rich with colonial architecture and is also a showcase for national and international culture.

Within the city you can visit the Museum of Contemporary Art, Museum of Natural History, and the Museum of the City among many others, and the Great Museum of the Mayan World recently opened as part of the celebration of the end of the Mayan calendar.

The architectural beauties of Merida include the Government Palace, the theater Teatro Peon Contreras, the Cathedral of San Ildefonso, Casa Montejo and of course a tour of the Paseo Montejo where large French-style mansions are found like the palace Palacio Cantón which today houses the Museum of Anthropology and History of Yucatan.
