Mayapan- Archaeological Site
The name Mayapan means Banner of the Maya and it was the most important area of the old settlement in the 13th century. It has a building called the Castle of Kukulkan, which is very similar to the Castle at Chichén Itzá.
Here, astronomical phenomena related to summer and winter solstices have been recorded.
Carvings and paintings can be admired that highlight the religious and social life of the time. According to studies, the city was destroyed during an alleged civic uprising that led to the decline of this fraction of civilization.
