Information

There has been little time since the Ek Balam archeological site was discovered, and therefore it continues to offer explorers secrets to be discovered. Its name means “Black Jaguar”. The most significant discovery can be seen in the sculptures of men with wings that crown one of the structures. These "winged beings" resemble angels that protect a trinity of characters who may well be gods represented as men. It was a Mayan city, and there have been remnants found of what could have been walls that suggest that it was not an insignificant village. Some of the buildings scattered within an area bordered by trees and hills are still covered over by the jungle vegetation.

Open every day from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Entrance: $35 pesos. (Important: CULTUR, Yucatan State Government charges a fee of $95 pesos to foreign)
