The Museum of Art and History of the Guanajuato Cultural Forum is the best of its kind in the state of Guanajuato for the study and dissemination of man through history. Opened since November 27, 2008, its spectacular Theater of Opera has a capacity of 1,500 seats.  It is the first theater for opera performance to be built in 100 years in Mexico.

It has an area of 22,000 square meters, of which 4,000 are intended as an exhibition area. Distributed over three levels its rooms and services are: Luis García Guerrero Room (temporary exhibitions) and Feliciano Peña Room (temporary exhibition hall and multipurpose room).

Its areas of educational services include the following spaces: classrooms, playroom, screening room, multi-purpose room, Mateo Herrera auditorium located across from the Museum which can accommodate 265 people, a cafeteria, and Educal Bookseller.

At the entrance to the Museum of History you can see a monumental sculpture by artist Ricardo Motilla representing the Roman martyr and patron of the city of Leon, San Sebastian. The work symbolizes the defense until the ultimate consequences of values and personal beliefs and to give one’s life for one’s convictions and consistency between thinking and acting of individuals.

Days and times to visit the museum: Tuesday to Friday from 10:00a.m. to 6:00p.m. and Saturday from 12:00p.m. to 7:00p.m.  Free admission on Sundays from 11:00a.m. to 4:00p.m. Admission is $20 pesos for exhibitions.  School groups free of charge. Valet parking available.
