The mexicas, culture linked to so many native towns that existed in mexican soil, were the ones who perceived the magnificent nature of a place where various elements are combined with subtlety and serenity like no other: enchanting beaches with not only fine but white sand touched by the intense blue of the sea which, along both its arms, exposes the rythmical melody arousing the most lively peaceful feelings for those who bathe in its infinite waters. Cuahtolco, the “place where timber is adored”, is today distinguished as one of the most seeked out destinations for tourists. The bays of Huatulco, as known today, develop a constant growing hotel infrastructure, while nature growing in the surroundings ignore the presence of modern man. Turtles lay eggs, exotic birds sing to the sky while the color of vegetation turns to life as ceibas and orchids; in the distance the jaguar roars, ancestral symbol of mesoamerican cultures; the deer run along the dense underbrush and year after year there is an increase of those who succumb to the enchantment of Huatulco, situated at the edge of the vast Pacific Ocean in the state of Oaxaca.

The status obtained as a port of commerce during the times of New Spain, made out of Huatulco an objective of ambitions due to the great benefits given to the Spanish throne. Its beaches were witnesses of pirate disputes and raids, similar to those adventures and mischievous animated characters in the XVI Century: Francis Drake in 1578, or Thomas Cavendish, who not only snatched whatever found in the way, but also fell astounded when admiring the incredible beauty of the place in more then one occasion.

Taking place in one of the beaches of Huatulco was one of the most bitter episodes of national history: the treason and handing over of he who would end the Independence of Mexico, don Vicente Guerrero. We know this beach as La Entrega (The Handing Over), located in the Bahía de Santa Cruz (Santa Cruz Bay).

Throughout time, Huatulco has remained as a place possessing a magnetism which has served to attract millions of eager travellers who wish to abandon themselves in this heavenly ambient.
By 1969, the Mexican government had decided to impel the tourist industry, especially in places where beaches existed, reason why an exploration of all the national territory was set about. Flying above the Pacific Ocean, observers distinguished bays possessing optimal characteristics in order play a part in the governmental project. It is in 1983 when the Bays of Huatulco would take shape, once the highways Puerto Escondido-Salina Cruz would be finished and the Oaxaca-Pochutla highway, being up to these days one of the constant growing destinations bringing investments and more visitors year by year.
