The city of Hermosillo sits towards the northwest of Mexico, near the Gulf of California, or the Sea of Cortez. It is a modern city that it distinct for two reasons, for being the state capital of Sonora, and for being a city whose excellence lends itself as an invitation to visitors. The city's economic development has led it to be a destination that offers a variety of tourist services to meet any travel need.

With a raceway, golf courses, tennis courts, bowling alleys, cinemas, shopping malls, supermarkets, bars and nightclubs, along with 44 hotels and 260 restaurants boasting culinary specialties and international cuisine, Hermosillo is the perfect destination for a family vacation or business trip.

Art and culture in Hermosillo have become a growing force, in a city that is already committed to artistic production in general. Free performances are put on at public places, and special interest is given to the Cultural Corridor, which includes the Plaza Hidalgo where a street fair is held every Saturday offering crafts, paintings, art, accessories, antiques, books, etc. for sale.

The Plaza Hidalgo also hosts plays, concerts, dances and shows in general. This square was formerly known in the nineteenth century as the old Plaza del Parian, and received its present name in 1910 to celebrate the centenary of the Independence of Mexico. Since the beginning of the twentieth century, Plaza Hidalgo has also been the financial heart of Hermosillo with the offices of the Banco de Sonora (1905) and the Banco Nacional de Mexico (1912) located around the square.

When the state of Sonora was formed on March 13, 1831, Hermosillo would become its capital. As the political and economic epicenter of Sonora, Hermosillo has an international airport and eleven airfields, as well as modern roads and highways which connect the city with the rest of the country.

The city also offers itself as a great place for organizing conventions and exhibitions with The Expo Forum, where large events for business, art and culture can be held. Or if you are thinking about a family vacation, make sure not to miss: The Ecology Center, which showcases the nature and wildlife of the region, or La Sauceda Recreational Park, where in addition to being a great spot to be with nature, you can visit the Children's Interactive Museum "La Burbuja." Or how about a few days on the beach?

Enjoy water sports, hotels and restaurants at Kino Bay's large and quiet beaches, located just 65 miles from the city.

Nearby there is Punta Chueca, home to the Cunca'acs and Seri tribes, whose talents are displayed in beautiful pieces of craftsmanship. A great choice for families includes day trips and tours around San Pedro El Saucito and El Alamito Royal, where you can appreciate the magnificence of the Sonoran Desert.

A great way to see the city of Hermosillo is on a trolley tour. The tour begins in Plaza Zaragoza and passes around the most important sights of the city during the one-hour tour. You will see the Government Palace, Villa de Seris, the Plaza de los Tres Pueblos, the former penitentiary, and many more while experienced through the talents of a narrator that transports the passengers back through the history of Hermosillo…. and all for only $ 25.00 pesos per passenger! It is true that Hermosillo is a city that supports artistic expression in all disciplines, and the proof is found at the Casa de Cultura, the University of Sonora Arts Center, or in the fact that each year the city hosts the "Alonso Vidal" National Poetry Competition, where writers from Sonora and around the country come and participate. It's true that Hermosillo is a modern city, where more than 700,000 inhabitants contribute to the ongoing evolution of this large city, but it is just as true that the steaks and Carne Asada of Sonora (Post roast Carne Asada) are truly amazing! And this is how we conclude, with a fine cut of a good quality steak, in a nice restaurant, in a destination steeped in history, resulting in an excellent experience, the city of Hermosillo.
