Information

In 1988 the city of Guanajuato was named a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. There were two reasons for this decision: the buildings within the Historic Center of the City and its adjacent mines.

For more than two hundred years, the16th to18th centuries, this town was considered the most important center for silver in the world.

Currently, one of the main avenues is adorned by the sculpture El Minero, which reflects on the roots of the craft which founded the city of Guanajuato in the year 1546.

The monument honors all those who through their efforts, their work and life in the mines, made the land a historic legacy for future generations.
