The first cathedral was built in a rudimentary way with adobe and straw in 1551 in which is currently the temple of Santa Maria de Gracia. A fire almost completely finished with the church in 1574 so another one began to be build but the process was not fast. In 1618 finally were able to move but for 1818 an earthquake collapsed the towers and the dome of the temple. Once again were build, but in 1849, another earthquake pull them down. So, finally, under the orders of the architect Martin Casillas were built the ones that currently distinguish this church of eclectic style with Gothic touches and Renaissance facade. The temple has three Gothic vaults, 11 side altars, 30 Doric-style columns and with invaluable artistic jewels such as a sculpture of the Virgen de la Rosa, gift from Carlos V as well as oil paintings of Cabrera and Paez.
