Suchitlan is a small town that belongs to the municipality of Comala, and is located 5 km (3 mi) from the county seat and 12 km (7 mi) north of the city of Colima. It is noteworthy as a tight-knit community where many traditions with pre-Hispanic Nahuatl origin are still valued and preserved.  One can admire the cobbled streets and traditional houses with red tile roofs, to the classic local crafts like masks which are hand carved in wood and decorated with bright colors, which have been used for generations in seasonal festivals such as Easter, Christmas, fiestas, carnivals and folkloric dances. This village is wonderful to visit for the day, eat Mexican food in one of their famous restaurants, sip delicious coffee from the region, and to see the panorama of the Colima Volcano and the lush foliage that surround the Suchitlán River Canyon.
