Pinacoteca Universitaria Alfonso Michel - Art Gallery
Alfonso Michel Martínez was born in Colima on January 14, 1897, and passed away in Mexico City in 1957. During his life, he came to be recognized as a notable painter. The city of Colima honors him with this space that is dedicated to art and culture, also holding his name. Headquarters of the Cultural Heritage University, the Pinacoteca Universitaria Alfonso Michel is a set of traditional houses which display a collection of over a thousand works in painting, drawing, sculpture, engraving and photography by such artists as David Alfaro Siqueiros, José Clemente Orozco, Francisco Toledo, José Luis Cuevas, and others. The gallery was recently restored, and among its permanent exhibits is the work of native Colima artist Alfonso Michel. The gallery has a cafe, lecture hall, hall for educational services, a library, and guided tours. It is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 to 2:00 and 5:00 to 8:00, and on Sundays from 10:00 to 1:00 pm.
