Information

Nogueras is a small picturesque town located in the municipality of Comala in the state of Colima. After a long time in which western Mexico was considered to be an area of secondary cultures in the Mesoamerican period, we now know that the importance of these cultures was much more significant than previously thought. Nogueras is also a very old settlement that produced from its ground a high volume of pre-Hispanic pottery. This town was formerly called Ajuchitlán, which means  Valley of Flowers . During the last years of the 17th century, Spaniard Juan de Noguera founded the Hacienda de Nogueras, establishing himself as one of the largest sugarcane producers in the region at that time. Today you can visit the premises of the Hacienda, which is now owned by the University of Colima. Its facilities were upgraded to accommodate a Study Center, an ecological park, and the Alejandro Rangel Hidalgo University Museum, where the native Colima painter Alejandro Rangel Hidalgo lived, an artist of declared remarkable talent. In Nogueras there are restaurants with regional food and ecotouristic services like quad rentals that perfectly complement a visit to this area.
