Mexico Museum of Modern Art

Mexico is a cosmopolitan city that converges the disciplines of the country in all areas, from its cuisine to its trade and industry.

Thus, the city has also become the most dynamic artistic part of the country, and above all, a place to develop and diversify the arts, welcoming new disciplines and creating forms that reflect the urban setting of the metropolis. One of the places that have witnessed this evolution, and whose purpose is to provide a public space to create a unique experience to its visitors, is the Museum of Modern Art (MAM), located within the perimeter of the Bosque de Chapultepec, next to the Prolongación Reforma.

The MAM is part of the cultural venues in the area along with places such as the Lake House, the National History Museum, and the Museo Rufino Tamayo.  The latter shares with the MAM’s vision a contemporary art space.  One of the main features of the museum is the creation of an infrastructure that can accommodate different disciplines in an unconventional layout, as the space is curved and the polarized window glass create a space of pleasant appreciation any hour of the day.

The MAM has two buildings, the main exhibition building and Gamboa Hall, designed to accommodate cutting-edge projects in different artistic genres. In addition to these, the gardens of the compound are a rich site of sculptural pieces in bronze, iron and other metals. The museum’s main building has four main rooms arranged on two floors of the building, and a small room that currently presents a sample of the Latin American musical movement. The museum exhibits are constantly changing and have been home to important collections such as "Retrospective" by Graciela Iturbide and "The Volume Unveiled" of Maria Lagunes.

Current (July 2011) exhibitions include "Neo-Mexicans Fictions of Identity in Mexico in the 80s", "Other Eyes, Photographers in Mexico 1972-1960", "Gonzalo Lebrija, Spectacular Drift" and "Remedios Varo and his Contemporaries ".
