The Antiguo Palacio de la Inquisición was built in the 18th century by the architect Pedro de Arrieta. The building served as the court and prison for the inquisition, a public dance hall, the campus for the military school, a prison for military and political prisoners, and from 1847 until the middle of last century it was the National School of Medicine. It currently houses the Museo de Medicina Mexicana, inaugurated on December 22, 1980. It consists of 24 exhibit halls which include:  Old Mexico, Food, Gods, Tzompantli, El Temazcal, herbology, and halls covering from the 16th century to 19th centuries respectively, Laboratory of Physiology, Wax display room, National Academy of Medicine, Botica Esesarte, Radiology, Dr. Carlos Coqui, Dr. Donato G. Alarcon, German and Juan Somolinos, Tomas G. Perrin, Otolaryngology, Mexican Gynecology and Obstetrics, and the site museum. In a major effort, the museum put together art, science and technology for the cultural heritage of the community. Open Tuesday to Friday from 9:00 to 6:00, Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 to 2:00.
